"Transitions" Chrysocolla and Native Copper This fountain was a commissioned piece. The client gave me basic information on the colors and I provided them some options. The copper centerpiece was solely my creation. Since this piece is sold we would love to build another one just for you according to your particular color preferences.
The basin and fountain stand which also encloses the pump is composed of Chrysocolla which is a hydrated copper silicate with a variable composition. The material contains higher silica concentrations in some areas becoming a chalcedony with visible quartz and also contains associated limonite, azurite and turquoise. Chrysocolla forms in the oxidation zones of copper ore bodies which served as the inspiration to feature Native Copper as the fountain centerpiece. The entire piece represents the many phases which copper exists and hence the name “Transitions” The material used was obtained from mines in the Congo and also Mexico. The native copper was obtained from a mine in Michigan.
